Life in the Sonoran Desert

The Sonoran Desert is home to a wide variety of unusual creatures including javelina, coyote, Mexican Wolf, jaguar, bighorn sheep, and bobcats. Smaller animals such as the fox, skunk, cottontail, prairie dog, roadrunner, jackrabbit, and bat, also make their home in the desert. Desert animals also include reptiles like the rattlesnake, lizards, the Gila monster, and horned toad.

The Sonoran Desert is both a subtropical desert and the most complex desert in North America. Because it receives rainfall bi-seasonally, its diversity can be seen in its geological structures as well as its wide variety of plant and animal life.
